Pressing cider has been a yearly tradition since our kids were tiny. We enjoy the whole process; the tasting as you go being the favorite part for the youngest ones.
We like to try different apple varieties and combinations. How about pears added to an early variety of apples? Many of the earlier varieties have less sugar content, so by adding some ripe pears you can create a more robust flavor.
We get pretty silly with the music blaring in the background. (Some 60's soul "Ain't No Mountain High" to sing to, Celtic fiddle...) We like to tell stories and jokes as we press on.
In a couple of hours, our freezer is full of raw apple cider and we've had a lot of fun doing it!
Our family also breed standard, medium and mini Australian Labradoodles. Bred for personality, temperament, and looks.
